To effectively extract rare earth elements from CFA, it is necessary to first destroy the aluminosilicate phase to dissociate the rare earth minerals. Fan et al. adopted ZnO as the activator, transforming aluminosilicate into an acid-soluble form [31]. Under optimal conditions, up to 87.1 % of REEs were successfully recovered from CFA.
